What Does Second Sound Do?
Second Sound specializes in:
High power ultrasound
Engineering consulting on ultrasonics and NDE
Manufacture of transducers from 100 kilohertz to 1 Gigahertz
Transducers include large diameter (50 mm diameter) with long (excess of 150 mm) and short (half the diameter) focus. Highly damped, medium damping, and undamped are available. Electronics to pulse and receive with transducers above 100 MHz are usually furnished with the transducer and can be incorporated in the transducer case to increase noise immunity and improve signal to noise.
Three axis ultrasonic scanner
The ultrasonic scanner is used to characterize ultrasonic transducers and to test special or custom transducers for customers. The system is controlled by a Macintosh computer and has the capability to acquire signals up to 1 GHz, with 10 to 14 bit voltage samples, and 10,000 time samples. Standard and custom digital signal processing capabilities are available including Welch PSD, deconvolution filtering, wavelets, bispectrum (HOS), arma, and others.
Ultrasonic inspection and examination services.
The ultrasonic scanner is capable of scanning parts up to 200 kilograms with dimensions of 0.5 to 2 meters. The frequency can vary from 0.5 to 1000 MHz with precisions of 3 micrometers. Arbitrary scan plans are available and multiple parts can be scanned in one setup. The number of parts which can be scanned in one setup depends on their size and weight. The scanner is available to evaluate customers transducer needs. If you have an application we will be happy to look at your parts for free.
Engineering services in ultrasonic NDE robotic systems.
Construction of custom automated ultrasonic systems to meet customers needs is a speciality. We do immersion, bubbler and squirter applications as well as pipe scanners. Scanning speeds to 3.9 meters/second and accelerations to 2 gês are available. We also provide semi-automated contact equipment that can keep track of coverage and record data in the field as required.
